About Head and Neck Reconstruction
Tumors that affect the regions of the head and neck may require surgery. This may affect the way patients are able to speak and swallow. Distortion of the head and neck region can have devastating effects on appearance and function of the patient and are among the most disabling and socially isolating defects with significant impact on patient’s quality of life. Head and neck tumors are strongly associated with a history of smoking and alcohol consumption, but recent evidence has shown that low economic status is a strong risk factor, comparable to tobacco and alcohol.
