Biography

Dr. Marshall Austin is Professor of Pathology and Director of Cytopathology at Magee-Womens Hospital of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Austin is a 1977 graduate of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD, PhD) with a PhD dissertation in virology.  Austin received his postgraduate subspecialty training in Gynecologic and Breast Pathology and Cytopathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology from 1983-1986. Dr. Marshall Austin is an active researcher, author, and lecturer.  Austin current areas of research interest focus on cervical cancer screening, cervical neoplasia risk stratification modelling and risk management, new cervical screening technologies, and public and professional education.  Austin is a past President (2004-2005) of the American Society of Cytopathology and served as member and Advisor to the Cytopathology Resource Committee of the College of American Pathologists for over a decade. Dr. Austin has served as section editor, editorial advisory board member, and reviewer of numerous publications, among them American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Diagnostic Cytopathology, Cancer Cytopathology, Acta Cytologica, and CytoJournal.

Research Interest

Dr. Marshall Austin research interest is in cancer screening and cervical cancer diagnosis,new technologies used in cervical screening and Risk management in cervical screening.
