Biography

Jared D. Evans obtained his B.S. in Biology at The College of New Jersey in 1997. He was awarded the Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology at Stony Brook University in 2002 after completing thesis research on Adenovirus replication and its reorganization of important subnuclear organelles under the guidance of Dr. Patrick Hearing. Dr. Evans was a post-doctoral fellow at The Salk Institute for Biological Sciences with Dr. John A. T. Young where is helped develop and validate a cell-free system for retroviral entry. In 2004, he joined the laboratory of Dr. Christoph Seeger at Fox Chase Cancer Center. As a post-doctoral fellow, he developed a program to study medically importantflaviviruses (West Nile and dengue virus) and their interaction with the innate immune signaling pathway. In 2008, he was appointed Assistant Professor in the Center for Vaccine Research and Department of Molecular Microbiology and Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh.

Research Interest

Dr. Evans works in collaboration with colleagues and post-doctoral fellows to understand complex mechanisms in virus-host interactions with goals toward vaccine development. His main focus is investigating the role of West Nile and dengue virus proteins in abrogating the response to the antiviral innate immune molecule Interferon. By understanding how these viruses resist antiviral environments, more effective rationally designed therapeutics and live-attenuated vaccines can be produced. Dr. Evans has also expanded his vaccine research efforts to include the development of virus-like particle formulations derived from a novel yeast platform.
