Biography

Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish is an Associate Professor of Global Health at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, Canada. Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish received the 2011 Lombardy Region Peace Prize and was selected as one of the Top 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre for his inspiring work promoting peace and public health. Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish received his elementary, preparatory and secondary education in the refugee camp schools, followed by a scholarship to study medicine in Cairo, Egypt and a diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of London, UK. From 1997-2002, Dr. Abuelaish completed his residency in at the Soroka University hospital in Beer Sheva, Israel followed by a subspecialty in Fetal medicine in Italy and Belgium, and a Master in Public Health (Health Policy and Management) from Harvard University.

Research Interest

Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish research interests include global public health, women's health and health conflict and peace.
