Biography

Dr. Michael Chia is a Professor of Education (Paediatric Exercise Science). Dr. Chia is currently Dean for Faculty Affairs at National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Dr Michael Chia obtained his PhD, majoring in Paediatric Exercise Physiology from Exeter University in the UK in 1998 on an Association of Commonwealth Universities Academic Staff Scholarship and on a Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) Staff Development Scholarship. He earned a 1st class honours degree in Physical Education and Sports Science (1991) from the Loughborough University in the UK and a Distinction Diploma in Physical Education (1986), from the College of Physical Education in Singapore. Dr. Chia’s professional credentials include certifications by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES) as a sports scientist (Physiology Research), the American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM) as a Health and Fitness Director and the Outward Bound School Hong Kong.

Research Interest

Dr. Chia’s research interests include Paediatric exercise physiology, physical and sport education and youth sport and fitness performance. My current research is inactivity physiology and youth performance.
