Biography

Eloisa Urrechaga started her career in Clinical Chemistry in 1984 as a trainee in Hospital General de Asturias (Oviedo, Spain); she became head of Laboratory in a Community Hospital, Hospital de Jarrio, (Asturias, and Spain) in 1990. In 2001 started as Consultant for Clinical Chemistry in the Hospital Galdakao Usansolo (Spain), responsible for Hematology Laboratory, where she continues. In 2010 she obtained her PhD in Medical Sciences at Zaragoza University (Zaragoza, Spain) on a thesis in the field of erythropoiesis. In 2011 she was appointed as Associated Professor at University of the Basque Country and Tutorial for Medicine Laboratory, in 2014. She is an expert of the Spanish Science and Innovation Ministry and the Agency for Assessment of new technologies for research project validation in Spain, Chez Republic and Argentina Member of the WHO Guideline Development Group – Ferritin International Micronutrient Malnutrition Prevention and Control, World Health Organization; member of Analytical Hematology and Trace Elements Commissions of the Spanish Society of Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Pathology, Grupo Iberico del Hierro and Miembro del Grupo Key Opinion Leaders in Hematology, Beckman Coulter European Scientific Division.

Research Interest

Eloisa Urrechaga is particularly involved in the development of new hematological parameters applied to the study of anemia and erythropoiesis as well as Glycohemoglobin. Recent publications includes the topics like automation, biological parameters in functional iron deficiency, β-thalassemia, anemia of chronic diseases and other erythropoiesis disorders, serving as an editorial board member and scientific reviewer in different Journals.
