Refining the Risks in Living Kidney Donation: A Narrative Update
Kidney transplantation, particularly from a living donor is the preferred treatment for patients with ESRD. Live donor kidney transplant has become increasingly widespread. As a result attention has been diverted toward the short and long-term safety and risks of living donation. An understanding of factors contributing to the short and long term risks after kidney donation can improve donor selection and counseling, as well as long‐term outcomes. This review provides an update on the recent literature regarding post donation medical and surgical risks, which is an area of utmost concern for potential living donors in order to provide excellent post donation outcomes.
