About Sports Doping

In competitive sports, doping refers to the use of banned athletic performance-enhancing drugs by athletic competitors. No longer limited to elite athletes, it is increasingly found in amateur and school sports. Abuse of medicines for sports doping purposes represents an unsafe and unapproved use of medicines and brings significant health risks. To understand the role ethics plays in sport and competition, it is important to make a distinction between gamesmanship and sportsmanship. A more ethical approach to athletics is sportsmanship. Under a sportsmanship model, healthy competition is seen as a means of cultivating personal honor, virtue, and character.
